If there is one sport almost every child loves, it’s basketball. This sport is just plain fun and it doesn’t matter how tall they are or if they can even make a basket. With a portable basketball goal, a parent can give their child the possibility to train and play just about anywhere. Most parents of today were themselves struggling basketball stars back in their formative years. A lot of us had a basketball hoop installed to our garage. When we went outside together began to play catch with our baseball gloves, however, I knew how much I meant to him. Baseball mitts - and baseball in general is great for that. It can bring people together who would not be able to talk as freely otherwise.

My father knew that I did not want to be on any baseball team and, to his credit, he never asked me to be part of a team. All I wanted to do was to play catch with him and run around, and also occasionally shoot hoops with my friends. My own child is very different than I was at that age. He loves anything and everything that is related to sports, and I don’t know where he got that from. nevertheless, when I got him his very first baseball glove, he kept looking at me with the same look of joy that I had for my father when he got me one. Then, I knew that he was definitely and truly my son, and I was his father.

I am sure we have heard the old saying, practice makes perfect. In case your wondering, soccer is no exception to that rule. If you aspire to be one of the best at soccer then it is a must to practice. This can be done at practice but if you want to become a stand out star you need to practice on your own time as well. To become that star, you can practice with some of the free soccer drills below for starters.

The first drill is done individually and is called juggling. Now, you will most definitely not have the time or space to juggle a ball in a game but juggling lays the ground work for a lot of other soccer skills. Juggling is fun, easy and can be performed by yourself.

As you get better at juggling you’ll begin to notice your ball control skills grow as well as a good feel for the ball. This helps your dribbling and trapping ability which are very important in a game. Juggling also strengthens concentration, balance and the ability to control the ball with both feet. All that is necessary is to juggle a half an hour a day to help lay the ground work for other skills.

Our next drill is one called one on one dribbling. To be most effective, you should do this drill in pairs. There are so many instances in game play where you’ll need to take on an opponent and get past them. The more practice you have with one on one dribbling the better you’ll be when it really counts, in a game.

When practicing this drill, you will want to take on both roles. In one turn you’ll want to be the attacker and on the next you’ll want to be the defender. To make it more interesting, turn it into a game where if you get past the person your practicing with you score.

Finally we have one touch passing. This is best done in groups with your teammates. This drill will help in your ball handling skills and also work on your agility. This drill encompasses four players, 2 on each side standing roughly ten feet apart. To start, just pass the ball to someone on the opposing side by only touching it once. When the ball comes to you immediately kick it to someone else. After a short bit of time you should try and speed it up some to increase skill.

Soccer drills are the backbone of what makes a good player great. Be sure to practice these top soccer drills on a regular basis. You would be hard pressed to find a great player who doesn’t practice on their own time. How do you think they became so great.

Do baseball coaches, strength or speed trainers know which type of pitching workouts are best for pitchers? Most clearly do not. Every ‘trainer’ or conditioning coach needs to fully understand why pitchers need a certain type of conditioning rather than what is currently proposed such as lots of time in the weight room to get bigger and stronger. Those who recommend that I must refer to as strength pin-heads. They believe more strength is good for every activity in sports including pitching a baseball.

These “pin-heads” need to be able to explain how skinny pitchers are able to throw with above average velocity. Sadly, most of them can’t. A “pin-head” is someone who dishes out misinformation they can’t back up with any evidence based research or someone who simply uses his beliefs as the authority. You should listen to neither…no matter what their credentials are.

How Pitching Velocity Is Related To Kangaroos Jumping

There is reference in our book The Science And Art Of Baseball Pitching regarding the ‘kangaroo’ which brings clarity to how a baseball pitcher is able to create velocity. And if you read that section of the book…it doesn’t get any clearer than that. Reading that section (31.5) should produce an ‘AH’ moment for coaches when they will sit back and realize the error of their former ways and how much time they have wasted on telling pitchers to build more strength.

The question that should be on all baseball conditioning coaches certification tests is: How would you train a kangaroo to jump further? If they don’t know how to do that, they will never understand how to train a baseball pitcher to be fit to pitch. So how would you train a kangaroo to jump farther?

1. put him in the weight room and do more squats, leg press, leg curl, leg extension?

2. strap on a weighted vest or parachute?

3. strap on ankle weights?

4. jump squats with weights?

5. try to improve his jumps by quickening his take off?

6. rebounding down the field focusing on shortening the duration of his takoff?

Do conditioning, strength or speed coaches know how to train kangaroos? Not likely. Therefore they do not know how to train pitchers.

If you had two months to train a kangaroo with good potential what would you have him do?

There is a simple method for training kangaroos — get them to jump to a level of moderate overload (fatigue), then let him rest, and repeat again. No more, no less.

This is how to train a pitcher to be fit to pitch whether it is working on his general fitness or on building his volume of pitches for games.

Some of you probably still believe that long toss makes sense. Unfortunately, it is just a waste of time even though just about every coach recommends it and just about every pitcher practices it. Long toss and similar pitching workouts are good if you are an outfielder but what does throwing long have to do with pitching…since pitching velocity is not about arm strength but much more about building momentum into a long stride.

Irrelevant practice is the single biggest reason why most pitchers will never reach their full potential. And especially why they will never develop maximum velocity or pinpoint control.

It is the irrelevant practice that is causing soreness and more risk of injury. And the 50% of time wasted today on irrelevant practice activities such as long toss, flat ground throwing, pitching drills to name a few is why pitchers are not improving based on the time spent practicing.

Before you can learn some really awesome soccer moves, you need to get the basic ones down first. The basic moves are not hard to learn but you will need to practice a bit. It is vital that you learn the moves laid out below as they will help you to master the more advanced ones. Be sure to go over and practice the basic soccer moves below.

Our first move we are going to learn is dribbling. Yes, it is not a flashy move but it is very important none the less. Many argue, for good reason, that dribbling is the foundation of your game. Dribbling boils down to having the ability to move a ball up and down or anywhere on the field in a controlled manner. All dribbling really is is having the ability to control the ball and move it anywhere on the field under your control. Learning to dribble is not hard and can be done by shoving, pushing or tapping a ball with the sole, outside or inside of the foot. What I recommend before starting out practicing dribbling is to first get comfortable with the ball. The best way to enhance dribbling is to get comfortable with the ball via juggling. When you juggle the ball, you develop a feel for the ball along with coordination that will help you pick up other moves more quickly in the future.

Our second move we are going to discuss is called the pass. There are basically two types of passing, the push or short pass and the long pass. Passing the ball is the ability of a player to move the ball from him or herself to another player without the other team getting it. As far as accuracy is concerned, the push pass is better than the long pass. The push pass uses the inside and middle portions of either foot. More to the point, you’ll be kicking the soccer ball utilizing the inside middle portion of the foot you want to pass with. Your other foot will be used to help aim the pass by being pointed in the direction you want the ball to go and planted next to the ball itself. Everything is the same for a long pass except that you will be striking the ball harder. You must always remember to keep your eyes and focus on the ball. This will help out tremendously in the accuracy of the pass.

Our final move is the actual shot. Arguably, accuracy is the most important aspect when taking a shot on goal. Power is not the goal here, accuracy is. Following the guide on how to pass above, the foot that is not involved in actually kicking the ball will be pointed in the direction you want the ball to go and also planted next to it. The foot that is actually striking the ball needs to be done with the angeled and inside portion of the foot. Take a minute and picture the side of your foot as a right angle. The bottom of the foot would be at 0 degrees and the top would be at 90 degrees, right? You want to strike the ball in the middle portion of your foot or at the 45 degree spot. By doing this you will be able to strike the ball with accuracy and power. As always, be sure to keep your eye on the ball.

So there you have it, the 3 basic soccer moves to build a solid foundation in your play. Upon mastering these moves you’ll be able to move on to more challenging ones. As long as you keep practicing, you’ll continue to grow as a player. You know how the old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect”, well in soccer this couldn’t be more accurate. Well, I am going to start with the fundamental tasks that you should focus on first, then we’ll take it from there…

This can be achieved using automated submission software or can be done by hand. It’s a little dull but will result in lots of back links to your website for better visibility in the search engines. This is pay off as you add more content and back links to your site.

2. Social bookmarking.

This is about submitting links to the major Web 2.0 social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Propeller and Reddit (to name just a few). The great thing is you can use software such as socialmarker.com to make the process far easier. You can also buy inexpensive software to automate the whole process.

4. Collaboration.

The classic “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” effect comes into play here and trust me, it works like a charm providing you genuinely approach people to help them first.
